Practical Law Canada subscribers know that Practical Law Canada’s service focuses on providing practical insight to help increase efficiency, decrease costs and improve client service. Here’s what our subscribers say about our service.
As a knowledge management lawyer, I regularly receive glowing feedback about Practical Law Canada. Associates tell me how invaluable this tool is to them in terms of educating themselves on the salient points of a matter they are working on. For those who are more junior, I hear time and time again the value of this product as a fantastic “just in time” training tool. More senior practitioners appreciate being able to direct their students and juniors to this reliable and detailed resource, and they love the Canadian market intelligence offered by the What’s Market database. My own experience with Practical Law has been extensive, going back before they launched in Canada. The resources are top notch, they are kept up to date and the editors are enthusiastic and eager to learn what the Canadian market needs and wants so they can make the product successful.
Allows me to focus on the practice of law and not the mechanics of law. Creates efficiencies that are passed on to clients – a win/win. Practical Law is a great tool for my practice. As a senior partner, by using Practical Law standard documents, I am able to focus on project implementation and legal and business risk analysis, versus simple drafting. Practical Law also reduces the instructions that I have to provide my associates. As important, when my associates ask me questions, it is after they have read and thought about the annotations provided under Practical Law. This way, the quality of the question is enhanced, and efficiency and product delivery is improved. Using Practical Law increases efficiency, decreases costs and improves client service and associate tasks.
Having access to information at my fingertips has enabled greater efficiencies in the delivery of legal services to my clients. Time which would have otherwise been spent on a file researching "market" provisions, or searching for relevant memoranda or applicable and current precedents has been materially reduced, allowing for time to be spent focusing on more meaningful client service. I am, and will continue to be, an enthusiastic user of Practical Law Canada.
The practice notes that accompany their standard documents provide useful and educational commentary which helps me understand the different type of clauses in the context of a particular commercial agreement. I frequently use Practical Law Canada to look up standard provisions where the precedents I can find have language which seems "over-lawyered" or too context specific to be used in the task at hand. I find the language used across all documents/clauses in Practical Law Canada to be clear, concise and practical.
I love Practical Law! It is a wealth of information that is helpful in not only the financing transactions, but commercial matters generally. I wish I had something like this earlier on. It’s my go-to when I want to see what’s market, grab a precedent, and get clauses for negotiating purposes.
Practical Law is a must have service. It enables a lawyer to stay competitive in today’s changing legal profession. Practical Law provides a lawyer with transactional know how on demand, without the cost or time to develop or maintain it. It incorporates existing market standards which are continuously enhanced. It provides a transactional baseline which both sides can accept as industry standard. This enables me to focus on what I believe to be the highest value add from a lawyer in today’s evolving legal profession – namely, advising on the risks and opportunities associated with the business deal.
I was quick out of the gate to discover Practical Law in my early years of private practice in New York and it gave me an invaluable competitive edge in terms of getting up the learning curve and grasping the ins-and-outs of corporate and structured finance. Now as a more senior practitioner, I use Practical Law’s weekly updates to ensure that I am among the first to know of new market developments, and the extensive precedent database coupled with the “What’s Market” articles provide an excellent benchmark for drafting and negotiating transaction documents. From market trends and best practices to regulatory updates, the breadth and depth of information available on Practical Law has made it truly a one-stop reference shop in my practice.
Cassels Brock spent a great deal of time deciding on our knowledge “partner” – we choose Practical Law Canada. For me a big contribution to my practice and the firm is the improvement in associates drafting skills which means less time being spend by the partners. This translates to greater efficiencies within the firm and with clients.
Practical Law Canada is a formidable asset to have at your disposal in today’s increasingly competitive legal environment. Not only is the precedent library extremely helpful, tools such as “What’s Market” provide intelligence on where the market is headed with respect to deal terms and trends. Having real time access to this information can be extremely helpful when negotiating transactions and documentation. As Practical Law Canada’s user base continues to grow, I suspect we will hear more lawyers in Canada ask, “what does Practical Law say? …” when trying to resolve issues.
